This website is being set up as part of the ongoing development of Comunn Eachdraidh Chinn a Deas na Hearadh, the aim of which is to maintain and strengthen community awareness and memory of people and of the way of life in south Harris in the past.   This is being done through the collection and preservation of artefacts, photographs, poetry and writings, both of the receding and more recent past.

The Comunn Eachdraidh will be based in  the new south Harris community centre, where two substantial rooms have been allocated for the displays.   Meanwhile donated items are held in our storage unit where we have copying and printing facilities to prepare photographic and written materials for display.

The Comunn Eachdraidh needs and welcomes donations of artefacts, photos and relevant items either on temponary or permanent loan.    Photographs and written materials can be copied and the originals returned to donors immediately.   Please note that donating items is taken to imply that the donor is willing to have them on public display.
